People who cook in the kitchen have to be cautious and aware of what they’re doing to prevent dangerous situations. Forgetting to turn an oven off, chopping vegetables with a sharp knife or failing to keep an eye on the pot of boiling water can lead to serious injuries and can potentially damage a family’s home. For owners of Giada De Laurentiis lasagna pans, now there’s an additional hazard in the kitchen that has already resulted in several injuries.
Yesterday, Wilton Industries of Woodridge, Illinois and Target Corporation announced the recall of approximately 148,700 Giada De Laurentiis ceramic lasagna pans because their handles are prone to breaking during normal use. The resulting sharp, jagged edges may lead to cuts and lacerations.
The popular brand, which is offered exclusively at Target and online at Target.com, sold the pan for $22 as a single piece and between $35 and $50 as part of a six-piece set from January 2009 through October 2012. Recalled pans are 9 by 13 inches in size and are cream colored with a “Giada de Laurentiis for Target” stamp on the bottom.
Customers who bought the pans should immediately stop use, as Target has already received 39 reports of the pan breaking or cracking, and six of these incidents resulted in lacerations. According to the CPSC, consumers can return them to any Target store for a full refund. If the pan was purchased as part of the six-piece set, the lasagna pan is the only product that is affected by the recall.
