It’s crucial for cooking and kitchen products to be safe, as consumers often use these on a daily basis. Several household appliances were recalled in May, including approximately 55,000 Avon Microwave Popcorn Makers because of burn and fire hazards. During use, the popcorn makers may overheat and ignite, potentially causing a fire. At the time of the recall, Avon had received 20 reports of the popcorn makers overheating, including two incidents that resulted in fires.
On May 30, Teavana announced a voluntary recall of nearly 470,000 Glass Tea Tumblers because of the possibility of laceration and burn hazards. The tumblers, which were manufactured in China, were sold at Teavana stores and online at Teavana.com between August 2007 and May 2013. Consumers could purchase the recalled tumblers as individual products or as part of the Flourish Iced Tea Glasses Sets or the Imperial Blooming Collection Tea Sets. Prices ranged from $15 to $100.
According to the CPSC, “[t]he glass tumblers can break or shatter unexpectedly, posing laceration and burn hazards.” Consumers should immediately stop use of the tea tumblers and identify whether or not the recall affects their product, as Teavana has already received over 300 reports of the glass breaking or shattering during use, including six reports that resulted in lacerations and burns.
The recalled glass tumblers are double-walled and often feature designs and prints on the inner wall. Many recalled models include removable lids and stainless steel infuser baskets and came in a color-coordinated cylindrical package. If consumers still have the original packaging, they can check the bottom sticker for the SKU number and UPC code. Teavana has included a list of all product codes, UPC codes, and model names on their website, in addition to featuring pictures of the recalled tumblers.
Consumers should immediately stop use of the tumblers in order to avoid the possibility of injury, and they can return individual tumblers or sets for free replacement metallic tea tumblers and complimentary tea. Teavana stores, with the exception of those located at the Columbia Mall in Maryland, the Dallas Fort Worth Airport in Texas, and the Galleria Mall in Florida, are accepting returns. Consumers can also contact Teavana to receive a pre-paid mailer if they do not have access to a store. Teavana can be reached at (877) 261-1509 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
