CF Moto Powersports and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have announced a recall of an undetermined number of scooters after the NHTSA determined that the manufacturer had failed to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 123, “Motorcycle Controls and Displays.” The vehicles were manufactured as scooters, however they lack a rear wheel foot brake that are required for motorcycles. The recall will begin around July 1, 2010.
The vehicle models in question are CHG/CF250T V3 and CHG/CF250T V5 and the models affected by the recall were manufactured between 2005 and 2009. CF Moto Powersports reported the recall to the NHTSA on January 13, but has not yet provided the administration with a list of consequences that could stem from the lack of the rear wheel foot brake.
Consumers who have purchased either of the recalled models, regardless of the manufacture date, should contact CF Moto Powersports if the company has not yet contacted them. CF Moto will install a right foot control rear wheel brake kit at no expense.
